November 21, 2020

Hello Dear Friends,

Warmest Christian greetings!

PRAYERS FOR YOU – This week the focus is on our young men and women. The prayer for each of them is that they would “Remember their (your) Creator in the days of their (your) youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when they (you) will say, ‘I find no pleasure in them“ – (Ecclesiastes 12:1). Recently it seems the Lord has been directing my focus to our young people…they have much with which to contend in such days as these – troublesome days and so much uncertainty. Would you pray with me that the Lord will protect them? Let’s encourage them every opportunity we get and go a step further and seek them out just to make contact and express appreciation for/to them. Thank you for doing that!

SUNDAY SERVICE & ONLINE CHURCH– Each Sunday is a day of praise, worship, missions reports and more! We are so happy for those who join us on YouTube each week. Here is the link: www.evangelnapanee.com<https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.evangelnapanee.com%2F&data=04%7C01%7CCal.Anthony%40paoc.org%7C99522764f776411292c408d888f79d8e%7C2ebf328d99ee405ba83db7ed38b341bf%7C0%7C0%7C637409944371263637%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=bPEcJi5Tjx75NU%2FdXVFUZ7d4iV4UXDwwNk%2BGAhq8PU0%3D&reserved=0>  We continue to keep the services to about the 1-hour limit and will do so for the foreseeable future. Let’s pray that the Lord’s presence and blessings will be evident amongst us whether we are physically at church or tuning in at home. We encourage you to join us at the church each Sunday when you feel comfortable doing so. Of course, if at any time you do not feel well, it is wise to stay at home and take good care of yourself. We certainly miss you, though!!

KIDS’ MINISTRY – We are excited that Kids’ Ministry continues at Evangel  Please see our website kids@evangelnapanee.com<mailto:kids@evangelnapanee.com> for more information. Play Group will be happening again on Friday, November 27 @ 10:00 a.m. This is an excellent opportunity to connect with parents and children from our community and beyond. We’re always grateful to Tanya and her team who minister so capably to the little ones!

YOUTH – Please note that 180º Youth gatherings will be held every 3rd week. We so appreciate your prayers for our young women and men plus those who are giving leadership in such challenging times. PASTORAL SEARCH – The Pastoral Search Committee met on Wednesday evening (November 18). Following much discussion/collaboration it was agreed that a “reset” plan will begin on January 4, 2021 with resumes for the Lead Pastor position being accepted until Sunday, January 31, 2021. We continue to work closely with our Eastern Ontario & Nunavut District as we seek the continual direction of the Lord. June and I will remain as your interim pastors.  Thank you for your partnership in praying as we look forward to great days ahead for Evangel Temple. This journey has taken much longer than anticipated and we certainly appreciate your understanding and patience. This is such a very significant task as we find the will of God.

PRAYER MEETING  You are invited to join us at the church on Monday, November 23 @ 6:30 p.m. for our next prayer meeting! These are very encouraging meetings as we gather at the church to pray together. There are so many needs and our world is in such turmoil! Times of prayer bring such a sense of the Lord’s presence and encouragement. We sure hope you can join us for an hour or so. Besides all of the prayer requests that we list each week plus your personal prayer list, please see the Missions prayer focus below.

BIBLE READING – The challenge for Bible reading for the months of November and December is Jeremiah and Lamentations (of Jeremiah)! This is deep reading but so good to be engaged in the Scriptures. Take the time daily to spend in God’s word. It will strengthen you immensely and bring much comfort as you meditate on the Scriptures. It is good for us to remember this verse: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom…” (Colossians 3:16). Some have expressed how the Old Testament scriptures are speaking deeply to them!

ADMINISTRATION – The updated copy of the Local Church Constitution is now available. Your Church Board and our Eastern Ontario & Nunavut District  have approved the document and now it is ready for your approval. Be sure to get your copy if you have not already done so. They are available in the church foyer. Please read the letter enclosed in the packet. Contact me should you have any questions, comments or amendments – your participation is welcomed. Included in the constitution booklet is our Statement of Fundamental and Essential Truths. For those who are not yet comfortable in physically attending church, a copy will be mailed or hand-delivered to your home. It is anticipated that a business meeting will be held soon to receive it. Be watching for the announcement.

The new shed will arrive on Tuesday, November 24! This will be an amazing addition which will alleviate the storage problem we have. The overflow section at the back of the sanctuary and the Youth room will look vastly different as we remove items and refurbish these areas. Thank you for your generosity in giving financially towards this need. The extra seating space will be pleasant and comfortable.

MISSIONS – I am in contact with Peter Rattay, Czech Republic pretty well every week. He is moving forward in obedience to the Lord as he and his family prepare to transition to the great city of Prague, CZ sometime in the days ahead. Would you pray for him and this new church planting venture? Thank you for including all of this in your prayers. We will keep you posted as news develops.

Excellent news!!! The total to date for my “Bike-A-Thon – Spain Project” (9-passenger vehicle re church planting and outreach with Raul and Lily Carrasco) is now a little over $19,000.00. This is a great “faith-booster and my faith is increasing!!!). Some other churches/individuals have come alongside! I seem to sense that before the end of the year we will reach the goal of $25K!!! Praise the Lord for His provisions! This fine congregation at Evangel Temple has been very so good to us and we are overwhelmed by your generosity and kindness! The Carrasco’s continue to minister to the many communities – 312 of them – in their region with more than 240 not having an evangelical church! Much prayer and personnel are needed. When we reach our goal of $25K a 9-passenger vehicle will be purchased. What this will do to make travel to communities and spreading the good news of the gospel will be incredible! Thank you so much for your kind consideration and doing your very best! I continue to work with other individuals and churches in eastern Canada to participate (some already have partnered). Should you wish to contribute to this project, simply write “Bike-A-Thon” on your offering envelope and place it in the box provided. We value your prayers and partnership.

CHRISTMAS IS COMING!!! – The Christmas Advent for 2020 begins on November 29 (next Sunday) and ends on December 24. Here is a little trivia for you: “Advent means 'Coming' in Latin. This is the coming of Jesus into the world. Christians use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas. ... Some people fast (don't eat anything) during advent to help them concentrate on preparing to celebrate Jesus's coming.” As you prepare for Christmas this year, we pray that you will be very conscious of the presence of Jesus every day. His first coming is celebrated and His second coming is greatly anticipated! Perhaps you have a family custom to observe the advent calendar and enjoy a chocolate treat each day. If so, enjoy! In the midst of all that is happening around us, let’s ensure that we keep Jesus as the focal point of our celebrations!

AROUND THE WORLD

HURRICANE IOTA
Hurricane Iota is expected to make landfall in Honduras and Nicaragua today (Monday, November 16) with 260 km/h winds and very heavy rain. Please pray that the impact will be minimal, and for comfort and peace for the people in these countries. Pray that food, water and aid supplies will get to where they are needed, and that power will be restored quickly. Pray that everyone needing medical attention will receive it quickly, and for strength and wisdom for all of the first responders. Pray also that God will protect, encourage and guide our PAOC global workers, Kathy Mizen and Kim Hodgkiss, who remain in their field of calling in Honduras.

THE PERSECUTED CHURCH
Over 260 million Christians around the world are persecuted for their faith in Jesus and are silenced through physical attacks, acts of humiliation and harassment, limited employment opportunities, and more. Please pray for strength, perseverance, faith and peace for those impacted, and for spiritual breakthrough in those regions where the gospel is suppressed. Together we can speak up #forthesilenced. For resources and more information visit forthesilenced.paoc.org<https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fforthesilenced.paoc.org%2F&data=04%7C01%7CKevin.Brown%40paoc.org%7C2bf5f316fc8f46733dc708d88a44898f%7C2ebf328d99ee405ba83db7ed38b341bf%7C0%7C0%7C637411374258417357%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=clHPNfhIqnG0Rccm%2BiVdN9k6CicbpRYAQjSuJy6juow%3D&reserved=0>.

Please continue to pray for God’s intervention in the spread of the coronavirus, which has infected more than 54,075,995, and killed nearly 1,313,920 people around the world.1 Pray for healing for those stricken with COVID-19, and comfort for those whose loved ones have passed away. May God continually strengthen and protect frontline and essential workers. Pray that, as many countries are easing some restrictions, their economies will respond well. Pray for continued diligence in wearing masks, washing hands, and physical distancing whenever possible, so that the spread is limited wherever the virus is present. Pray for protection and provision for people in developing countries who are malnourished and more vulnerable to this disease. Pray also for PAOC global workers who are remaining in the countries where they have been called to minister, and who are continuing to serve their communities with excellence during this pandemic.

EVANGEL’S MISSIONARIES/GLOBAL WORKERS GWs
Your prayers for our GWs are critical. Some of them are experiencing very challenging times with the reality of reduced financial support re COVID- 19.Thank you for taking the time to include them in your daily prayer times and for your faithful giving. Evangel has not had to cut back on financial support of our Missionaries and, for that, we are truly grateful to the Lord and to you! This is faithfulness in action! Please continue to remember Travis & Jesse (RAN), Dan & Belinda Collado (ABA, Canada), Jarren & Cindie Hildebrandt (Thailand), Kingston Pregnancy Care Centre (Elizabeth Sacrey), Scott & Melissa Williams (Spain), Janette Tirado (Peru), Laura Benson (Uganda), Deborah Sirjoosingh (Kenya), Cal & June Anthony (Eurasia) and Raul & Lily Carrasco (Spain). Everyone needs prayer and everyone deeply appreciates it!

We continue to pray the same prayers for you this week as described above and in these Scriptures: “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7) and “The God of peace be with you all.” (Romans 15:33).

Stay close to God!
