August 22, 2020

Hello Dear Friends,

Warmest Christian greetings!

For many weeks now we have been corresponding via email. It is good for all of us to be "in the loop" as we consider our wonderful church family at Evangel Temple. For those for whom we do not have email addresses, the postal service is the next best alternative. Just something to keep in mind - the postal service may be a bit backlogged these days so those who receive the letter in the mail there may be a little delay in it getting to you. We have worked hard to include everyone and, once in a while, it comes to our attention that there are one or two who are not receiving either an email or postal letter. If you are aware of anyone who is not receiving this information please let us know so we can add include them.

We pray that the Scriptures are bringing you encouragement and comfort these days as you continue to grow in your walk of faith. Here is a word from the prophet Isaiah:  "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David." (Isaiah 55:1 - 3). What a marvelous invitation and so rich in relationship and focus.
SUNDAY SERVICE @ 10:00 A.M.- Each Sunday morning is such a special time as we gather at the church facility. Last Sunday there were 88 present and the sense of the Lord's presence was so evident amongst us. This Sunday and until September 6 Rev. Dan Collado will be sharing the word of God. Please pray for him as he has so graciously made himself available for these 3 Sundays while June and I are in Nova Scotia visiting family. We are thankful to the Lord for a safe journey!

For these next few days some of our church family will be taking full advantage of the remainder of summer 2020 - it is good that they can get away for a short time despite the challenges of our current reality. We pray that everyone will enjoy lots of R & R before school starts and life returns a little more to normalcy.
ONLINE CHURCH - Each Sunday the service will be live-streamed. Getting started has had its challenges - last Sunday the hydro went out momentarily and messed with the settings for the 10:00 a.m. live-streaming. Our techs are doing an outstanding job and we deeply appreciate their expertize.  Please note that the services will be available at any time following the live-stream should you miss the 10:00 a.m. timeslot. Would you pray that this ministry will make an impact on those who tune in? I believe this is an "effectual door" that is opened to us. Those who cannot physically attend the service can certainly attend "virtually!"

KIDS' SUNDAY SCHOOL - Please note that Kids' Sunday School continues to be recorded and aired on YouTube. Encourage the children in your families to tune in! Again, the link may be found on our website.

CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY -  Cornerstone Christian Academy is preparing to re-open on September 3, 2020. It is expected that students will be attending on a full time basis.  A COVID-19 Reopening Safety Plan has been created. Applications are now being accepted. Please pass the word around!

PRAYER NEEDS - There are many needs for which to pray: Rose-Marie (surgery soon), Tim, Laura, Olivia, our youth, our seniors who are shut-in, Pat, Bonnie (awaiting admission to a care home), Angela, Shawn (seeking employment), Ken's niece, Robbie (taking treatments), Allan (taking treatments), Elizabeth, Linda (physical and spiritual needs), Matthew, David, Rebecca, a husband needing the Lord and a physical healing, Paige (15 years of age), Michelle & Caleb (recovering from COVID), Marg, Christl, Rosalie and family, Sharon, businesses and business people, new pastor, unspoken needs, live-streamed church service, Kids' Sunday School. There may be others that we should add to this list. Please let us know if that is the case and we will gladly include them.  Be sure to send an email or telephone us should you have a need. You may reach us at office@evangelnapanee.com<mailto:office@evangelnapanee.com> or 613-354-4281<mailto:office@613-354-4281evangel.com>. There are lots of prayer needs and they all include both the spiritual and physical!
MORNINGSTAR MISSION NEED - We are including the following message once more. If you are available and can assist, it would be greatly appreciated. This request is from Trudy McCarthy (Admin. Assistant)...

"At Morningstar Mission we are currently conducting a Meal Program where we are handing out or delivering meals 6 days per week.  As you can imagine this requires many volunteers.  We are very short of volunteers right now so we are reaching out to ask if any of your members might be interesting in volunteering a few hours a week of their time.  We are specifically looking for people who would be interested in helping hand out meals a few times per week, people who might be interested in helping to package the meals at the Lions Club, people to assist in preparing vegetables or fruit as required for meals, delivery drivers or assistant cooks.

If we could please ask you to present this request to your members to see if they are interested, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you!"

If you are available to assist, please contact Morningstar at 613-354-6355<mailto:613-354-6355> or email at morningstar@cogeco.net<mailto:morningstar@cogeco.net>

ANSWERED PRAYER - Dele Atteh's sister, Tokunbo and her 3 children, Enoch, Joshua and David arrived in Napanee last Sunday evening. They are currently in quarantine and have a week left in isolation. We are so looking forward to meeting them later. Please continue to pray for them as well as her husband, David, who continues to pastor in Nigeria. Hopefully he will be able to come to Canada soon.

CONDOLENCES - Deepest sympathy is extended to the Simpson family following the passing of Lori, Gary's sister-in-law. Lori passed away on August 21 - just a few short months following her husband's (Kerry) passing. Please remember this family in prayer as they experience this very deep bereavement. May the God of all comfort, comfort each family member.
PASTORAL SEARCH - On Monday, August 17 the Pastoral Search met and received a number of resumes to prayerfully and carefully review. Please pray for the Lord's continued direction as the journey continues. It is expected that another meeting will be held before the middle of September and, following that, we will move to the interview phase of the search. Thank you again for your partnership in praying.
ZOOM PRAYER MEETING - Please note that our ZOOM prayer meetings on Monday evening are "paused" for the next few weeks. Quite a number of our congregation are travelling or, at least out of town, and are not available. We look forward to starting again at a later date.

BIBLE READING - For the month of August we are focusing on the book of Genesis for our daily Scripture reading. I trust you are taking the time each day to spend in the word of God. Hopefully by now you are somewhere around chapter 35 or so! :) As you prayerfully read the Bible and meditate upon it, God's inspired word will strengthen you! You are to be commended as you discipline yourself to spending time in the holy scriptures. Paul admonished the Colossian Christians - "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom..." (Col 3:16)

ADMINISTRATION - Your tangible support of our church is always and deeply appreciated. Thank you for being consistent in your tithes and offerings. Summer months are normally a bit if a challenge with many travelling - hopefully, we'll make it up as the fall season approaches.

The new shed has been ordered and it is expected to be completely installed by mid-October. We are thankful that this shed will be the answer to much-needed storage space; this attractive structure will serve us well in the days ahead. Just to remind you of the rationale of purchasing this much needed space are my comments from last week: "This will serve the practical side of ministry as it relates to Evangel and will be a great blessing, providing much needed storage space. The 2 overflow sections of the sanctuary which were used for storage are now available to us for seating and expansion. The new shed will measure 44 X 14 with a garage door in each end. There will be an 8 X 14 loft that will give extra space as well. The cost is $25,000.00 for the pre-fabricated structure and will be transported and placed in position sometime in the month of October. Perhaps you would consider a special donation to assist us with this expense? That would be so appreciated. If you can help please identify your gift on an offering envelope as "Building Fund/New Shed". Thank you for your generosity!

SUMMER MUSIC - Deseronto Pentecostal Church (Pastor Dan Rooney) continues to host summer gospel singing concerts on our parking lot. It is hard to believe that summer has gone by so very quickly and the concerts will conclude on August 30! You are invited to join the gathering each Sunday evening @ 6:30.

[cid:image003.jpg@01D67865.346802B0]MISSIONS - ANNOUNCING A SLIGHT CHANGE!!!  My missions bike-a-thon was announced for Saturday, August 29, 2020 but we need to make a slight change. June and I have been "trying" to travel to Nova Scotia to visit family and it seems that each time there has been one reason or another why this could not work for us. At the moment there is a window of opportunity and we travelled to Wolfville on Tuesday, August 18 - a very long drive! Since we are now in quarantine for 2 weeks (unless regulations change) the date for the bike-a-thon has to be adjusted. It will now take place on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 and the ride will be in Nova Scotia on an old railway bed. I will be sure to keep you posted!

As mentioned earlier, the project this year is to raise funds for Raul and Lily Carrasco to purchase a 9-passenger van for ministry use. This ministry vehicle is essential to local and regional outreach. Many of the folk do not have transportation and city transport does not often cooperate. The region has hundreds of communities ( more than 700) scattered throughout the countryside and a vehicle like this is certainly essential and will be a welcomed blessing.

The cost in Canadian dollars is approximately $25,000.00. This is a fairly aggressive goal but we are praying that many will partner with us over these next few weeks. We can be a HUGE blessing to this amazing couple and the work of God in such a challenging region (Galicia, Spain).

We are pleased to let you know that on Monday, August 10 Raul and Lily arrived in Carballo, Spain in the province of A Coruña. They are very happy to be back "home" again...and so are the wonderful people in their congregation! Thank you for your prayers for them.

There are 2 options to donate and both are tax deductible:

(1)    Online at https://paoc.org/donate/CalAnthony<https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpaoc.org%2Fdonate%2FCalAnthony&data=02%7C01%7CCal.Anthony%40paoc.org%7C64478932fa2c4b0b23c408d841363d23%7C2ebf328d99ee405ba83db7ed38b341bf%7C0%7C0%7C637331048497010928&sdata=a%2BEJcYIaTG0TycPW8WToWiAQGNHRNBCUJdlzzQ3V7TA%3D&reserved=0> Be sure to mention "Bike-A-Thon" in the "Donation Instructions" box. This will be processed by the PAOC.

(2)    Place an offering at Evangel Temple clearly marked "Missions: Bike-A-Thon." This option will be processed by Evangel.

Please note that the bike-a-thon proceeds each year are divided 50/50 between the project and our PAOC expenses. This is a once-a-year "fund-raiser" that keeps June and me on the road! Your participation is deeply appreciated. Thank you so much for your kind consideration and doing your very best! We value your prayers and partnership.

PRAYER FOR OUR NATION AND WORLDWIDE:

ONTARIO-CANADA - A forest fire is causing destruction in Red Lake, Ontario, and has prompted the evacuation of approximately 3,800 people to date. Pray that God will pour rain upon the area so that the fire will be brought under control, and that He will protect and strengthen the firefighters and first responders. Pray also that God will comfort and encourage the people in the affected area, and that He will guide and provide for evacuated residents.

YEMEN - Please continue to pray for everyone affected by Yemen's ongoing civil war. Pray that the violence will cease, and that peace will reign throughout the nation. Pray that aid supplies will get to those who need it most, as ERDO is working with local partners to distribute food. Pray also for those affected by COVID-19 who cannot depend on the health system, which has collapsed due to medical centre bombings.

Our prayer for you these days is that God's peace will fill you to overflowing. Here are a couple more Scriptures for you: "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7) and "The God of peace be with you all." (Romans 15:33).

Stay close to God!

Cal & June
